Mi Mundo - As a child, I consumed myself with fashion and nature. When little girls were playing with dolls and such, I busied myself dreaming of fashion, sketching dresses and watching my mother create distinctive little girl fashions that I would proudly wear at school. My parents loved the outdoors and instilled in me a true appreciation and respect for nature. When I wasn’t camping or on hiking expeditions, I was frequenting second hand stores for those rare, delightful finds, since I was fascinated with combining new fashion with old. My passion for fashion took the back seat when I went to college to pursue “more realistic” goals, graduating with a degree in Business Management. In 2005, a life changing event provided me the opportunity to reignite my childhood passion and Cassandra Carvajal Designs was born.

Inspiration - My designs are inspired by three important themes – nature, music and all that is vintage. My appreciation for the beauty and amazing resources of nature has inspired me to use only the finest natural fabrics. The organic and rustic sounds of bluegrass and folk music, the smooth, vibrant and joyful sounds of Latin music, as well as the nostalgic appeal for a time of more simple living, are also essential elements of my designs.

Why natural fibers? - I’ve decided to start a clothing line dedicated to preserving our most precious asset—our environment. As a mother of two wonderful little boys, I am highly concerned about our future and impact on the environment. I want my sons to live in a place where our society understands the importance of using renewable resources. Our non-renewable resources are running out – and fast. Petroleum-based products and energy pollute the Earth’s atmosphere and adds to global warming. Why am I mentioning all this? Because much of our clothing today is made with petroleum based fabrics such as Polyester, Nylon, and Acrylic. What is the alternative? Using fabrics that come from renewable resources such as Hemp, Linen (Flax), and Cotton. Collectively, we can change the way society views our renewable resources and non-renewable resources. Education is the key. I hope you enjoy my designs as much as I enjoyed creating them!
