Respect - My appreciation and respect for nature’s beauty and resources has inspired me to use only the finest natural fabrics. I’ve chosen to use fabrics that come from renewable resources because these resources are replenished by natural processes at a rate comparable to its rate of consumption. I avoid using new petroleum based fabrics such as polyester, rayon and acrylic that are created from non-renewable resources, which are natural resources that can’t be re-made or re-grown. They do not naturally re-form at a rate that makes the way we use them sustainable. In my Distinctive Pieces designs I occasionally use salvaged synthetic fabrics in an effort to help the environment.

Recycle - We can help stem the massive amounts of pollution the earth receives each day by salvaging fabrics. Current research indicates the average American discards 67.9 pounds of clothing each year. In a state with 20 million people, that’s 1.4 billion pounds of clothing thrown away each year. Ninety-five percent of our clothing throwaways are recyclable, just like aluminum cans, glass and plastics. I’ve chosen to do my part by re-using existing fabrics and vintage materials in my Distinctive Pieces designs. These fabrics are thoroughly washed with eco-friendly detergent.

Re-Invent - Combining natural fabrics with recycled materials is the ultimate in an eco-conscious fashion lifestyle. The result is unique pieces that have character and at the same time, allow relief to our environment.
